Serving God Through Prayers

It lets you communicate with God directly
There is something very comforting about reading how God answered the prayers of bible people like Manasseh or David who called on Him in times of distress.
Manasseh - a prayer for deliverance: And when he was in affliction, he besought the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed unto Him: and He was moved by his entreaty, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord, He was God. 2 Chronicles 33:12-13
What can we learn about prayer from Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane Mathew 23: 36-39
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.
1. Prayer can be a private activity performed in a quiet secluded place to immerse in the presence of God. Jesus went away from his disciples and prayed: verse 36.
2. Prayer is a righteous act to engage in when faced with an overwhelming challenge and you need God’s sovereign power to help you deal with it: verse 37.
3. Prayer is an effective tool fueled by focus concentration: Jesus’ mind was focused on who he needed to pray to and what he needed to pray for. Verse 38.
4. Prayer is a divinely compelling pursuit that can lead you to God’s throne of Grace. Where you pray before God lying prostrate.
5. Prayer is a behaviour that can have the specific characteristic of pleading. You present your petition and ask God to do something about it for you. Verse 39.
6. Prayer is humbling yourself to God with trust and obedience. Having the strong conviction that his will overrides yours. Verse 39
7. Prayer is the satisfying, true peace that results from connecting with God in prayer which empowers you to do his will. Verse 39.
Note: Prayer may also be corporate: Matt 18:20; Acts 1:14; Acts 2:42, Acts 4:24; Acts 12:5
